Hi All Isn’t it always the way, you say one thing, make a statement or put pen to paper and Murphy’s law it changes. Last month I commented about the hot weather and how it didn’t look like changing in the near future, well within 10min of sending my report to Gavin a southerly came through and our Autumn sessions started. Who can predict what the weather will do now?
Thank you to the people who have taken the time to reply to my request for your thoughts on the National Meets. It’s become apparent the overall cost to go to each meet is what is concerning a good portion of you. I continue to encourage you all to keep your thoughts coming.
The decline in numbers at the Nationals over the last couple of years can be contributed, I feel, to a number of reasons and through your input these issues are starting to raise their heads, but is it just the tip of the Iceberg? If we think back a number of years at club level, I think we may see similar trends arising comparable to the decline in numbers at all our club annual concourses. MG Car Club Members throughout the world are at an age where a large number now in retirement or near to it; the generations that grew up with the name MG around are "US". The younger generations other than our families don’t remember the MG as we do. I personally think we should, as MG members start to look in our own back yards at club level, after that look nationally as a united group and start to see what we can do to raise the MG profile. I ask myself questions: Do our National Meets need to be organised around attracting people of all ages rather than making money? As MG Members what do we expect when we go to a National Meets or even just when we go to a club function? Do we need to just go back to basics and look in a way every member can afford to participate? I’m sorry to mix both national and club level together but I feel if we don’t look at either issue soon, the MG fellowship as we know may waiver. We in the Hunter are very concerned with this issue and that is why we have raised this topic and are trying to raise our own profile in our own little way - simply by being seen more driving through local areas in large numbers as a club and attending and supporting charity functions/ parades etc (basic stuff I know) but we hope effective. Again we would love to hear your thoughts on this matter.
March’s club run was one of those runs I think will be talked about for a long time. It was a perfect day; Great weather. great mix of cars models from TC, MGB, RV8 and F’s and of course great people. I think Captain John called it his “T” intersection run with nearly every road ending at a “T” Intersection. We travelled from Hunter MG Head quarters to Cardiff, Barnsley, Freeman’s Water Hole and onto Kitchener for morning tea, with Gavin in the TC setting the pace, after morning tea we travelled through Cessnock to the Wine country up to Audrey Wilkinson’s winery, where captain John had organised for us to use the verandah looking over what I feel is possibly one of the most spectacular views around. Great day, Great drive with Great friends
I must congratulate the team of members who are building the club trailer; I was very fortunate to see some photos of the progress and was extremely impressed. On behalf of the club I commend you all for a great job done so far. I praise this effort to every body and would remind members that helpers are always needed for trailer working bees which are held on each Saturday morning following the Monthly Club Nights. I also believe the next phase of the project, a lot of members would find interesting: removing and replacing panels.
Please keep what I have been trying to say in mind “all functions do it better when they do it together” and you will never never know, if you never never come and join in
