Social Directors Report - By Lyn Smith

Last weekend Geoff and I set out on a mission to finalise all the arrangements for the June long weekend to Orange.  However things didn't turn out quite the way we planned after driving all the way there.  Without getting into the whys and wherefores lets just say we're sure everyone will be very pleased with the outcome of our very eventful weekend. So this year our destination is now “Bathurst”.

This year the weekend will be very car orientated so your encouraged to drive your MG's if possible.   Our motel for the weekend is right on Mount Panorama with all rooms overlooking the circuit (sadly no racing during our stay). All rooms have a small kitchenette (including dishwasher!!) so self catering for breakfasts if you prefer. Our dinner on Friday evening will be at the award winning Jack Duggan's Irish pub where you will taste the best Guinness pie in the world! On Sunday we will drive around  Mount Panorama circuit, stopping for a photo of all our cars lined up.  Then we drive through the streets of Bathurst showing off our cars as we head out to the historic Abercrombie House where we will be warmly welcomed  by the proprietors Xanthe and Christopher Morgan who will take us on a tour of their very interesting 18th century home then serve us a delicious Devonshire tea served on china cups and saucers. The men will probably be more interested in the wonderful collection of old cars owned by the Morgan family.

Our Theme for this year is “the sixties”  so have a rummage through your wardrobes and bring out your old Mick Jagger jeans or Beatle jackets!! and the for the ladies....maybe your mini skirt and knee high boots!!  The venue for the theme dinner is at Algona on Mount Panorama Estate where we will be transferred by bus after a small detour to the Stone Pine Distillery for a private viewing and tasting.  We will be entertained by a live band who have assured us they know all the sixties music.

The cost for the weekend is as follows:-

Accommodation $150 per room per night paid direct to the Motel

* If required breakfast can be ordered at the hotel approximately $25pp per day*

Themed dinner, bus transfers, and Abercrombie house $100 per person paid direct to the club

** Saturday dinner and breakfast at own expense**
