Early explorer\, John Oxley\, said in 1817 “no place in the world can offer more advantages to the industrious settler\, than this extensive vale.” Surrounding villages such as Barraba\, Manilla and Nundle have their own charm\, and act as a contrast to the bright lights of the regional capital.
